OBGYN or midwife?

I’m curious who is all using an OBGYN or midwife for delivery? I’m currently planning on giving birth in a hospital with an OBGYN but I’m now considering using a midwife since I want a natural birth. I know you can have a natural birth in a hospital but I just feel like doctors always want to give medicine and jack up your bill.

Where we live, the office I see has 4 doctors and 3 midwives. You can request whomever you want for appointments (if they are available) but when it comes to delivering, you deliver with who is on call that day (could be an OBGYN or could be a midwife with and OBGYN as backup if needed). I delivered my first with an OBGYN and was completely natural - went in when my water broke, labored for several hours, never gave me pitocin bc I was progressing on my own, I got IV pain meds around 6cm so I could rest, delivered without an epidural. My second, my midwife "specialed" me which means I called her when labor started, she met me at the hospital even though she wasn't on call, and she was there the whole time. Also all natural, no pitocin or epidural, also did that one without the IV meds. Just depends on your preferences and your medical needs. Had I needed pitocin either time, they would've started it. Do your research, know what to expect going in, and ask a lot of questions.

So my OB I go to works with a midwife. So I see a midwife and will go through labor and delivery with her. Then if I have to have a c-section or something happens the OB will step in. I love that approach because as a first time mom I worry with all the “what if’s”.

After two OBs where I did feel pressured to induce I opted for a home birth this time around with a midwife. Do what feels right to you mama.

I have no chance of a VBAC so I’m doing a repeat C-Section. My body was not made for birthing purposes. I have to have an OB, and the one I have I love.

I had two family Dr, one OB, and doing midwife this pregnancy.  My first was a Dr. My second was with a Dr but she went on maternity leave so I was using my current midwife as backup and ended up having her 6 weeks early so ended up with OBs at a larger hospital. My second I did OB care where I work and delivered at my local hospital ( same one my first was born at). I am now back to a midwife and loving it.

After 3 OBs I'm going with a midwife for my 4th! I made it clear I don't want any drugs pushed (only if medically necessary) and to be left alone 😂 because with my last 3 that's all I feel like it's been..the midwives at my hospital work hand in hand with the OBs so I'm 100% comfortable going this route and actually looking forward to my labor and delivery 🤍
