Baby shower after baby is born?

My in laws want to have a baby shower for me but not until after the baby is born to make sure everything goes okay. It honestly doesn’t matter to me when I have my baby shower but is this a common thing? It kind of freaked me out because I obviously don’t want anything to happen to my baby. When have you all had your showers? Thanks in advance

Personally I would find a baby shower after my baby was born pointless because I would have already bought everything I needed

Yes we call it a Welcome Baby instead of a baby shower. It’s nice cuz they can come meet your baby at once without separately coming to visit

The only one I’ve ever been to like that was for an adopted baby. You need baby stuff before the baby comes. So if they wait until after, you will either need stuff you don’t have yet, or you will buy it yourself negating the whole point of a shower. Also, if it’s your first you will be overwhelmed with figuring out how to care for the child while healing yourself. I would not want to have to get done up and go to a party in an overwhelmed state like that. There’s more reason to have the baby shower first. Their whole reasoning is weird. If you were to lose a baby heaven forbid, the last thing they should be thinking about is regret over throwing you a party.

I’ve heard of that but I don’t think it’s very common. I would try not to worry, the odds of something happening to baby are low and it seems silly and rude for someone to suggest that. 
Personally I wouldn’t want to do a shower after baby because 1. I would prefer to not have a lot of people around my new baby and 2. I would have already bought major baby stuff so there wouldn’t be as many things I would want for a gift.
But I would say do whatever you want! Anything is fine!

Honestly, I don't want a baby shower but I am having them wait until after if they choose freely to give gifts. I've lost 3. With the oldest being 21 weeks. So while you are in a "safer" period after the 1st trimester, I still don't want to have all that happen again.

I believe they call it a “sprinkle”. My first daughter was born a month early so I didn’t have a baby shower while I was pregnant. But my side of the family surprised me with a sprinkle. Just makes it more special when your baby is here!

I was supposed to have mine next week... but since I’m moving I’m gonna push it back for the end of April/ early may right before she is born. However, if I can’t get it done then it will probably be after she is born.
