I've had both. C section was significantly harder.

My mom had a hospital vaginal birth, an (unnecessary) “emergency” c-section, and a home birth VBAC. 
Of the three, she said if she could do it all again, she’d have us all at home. The c-section was the absolute worst for her as far as recovery went. Her hospital vaginal was second worst because they gave her an episiotomy without her consent and the stitches made recovery so much worse. With me at home, she has slight internal tearing but it didn’t hurt nearly as bad as the episiotomy and she could pee without it stinging.

I’ve never had a C-section but recovery from vaginal deliveries was easier than I ever expected.  I had next to no soreness after.  I imagine it would have been different if I had major abdomen surgery

I’ve never had a vaginal birth, but c-sections suck! My first was an emergency c-section and I felt like it took forever to heal. I was bent over like a hunchback and in so much pain for weeks. I remember laying in bed after I got home and thinking my life was over because I couldn’t imagine ever moving normally again. Obviously I did recover (eventually), but it wasn’t fun or easy. Hoping my scheduled c-section is better this time, but I’m still planning for the worst. 
My sister has had 4 vaginal births and she’s always walking around right away afterwards. For her last baby she even went to lunch at a nice restaurant on her way home from the hospital with her husband lol. I’m sure everyone’s experience is different, but I cannot fathom how a vaginal birth could be worse than major abdominal surgery.

my mom had a C section and a VBAC she said she prefers the C because she recovered fairly quickly and all she got was a big ol scar. but she also had a very traumatic vaginal birth (all thanks to me lol) baby wouldn’t come out and she was contracting for over 50 hours and her total labor time added up to 6 hours.
my sister had two vaginal births and both times she recovered extremely quickly and was back to “normal” in two weeks.

The recovery from a csection depends on the person .
I've had 2 csection 
First one almost 7 years ago, my recovery was long and painful because I got a infection due to not properly resting.
2nd csection was a year ago and I recovered great. I was up the next day walking ,by the 3rd day when I went home I was feeling like I didn't have surgery lol I only took pain meds when I'd wake up in the morning

It really just depends on the person. 
Some wo.en do INCREDIBLY well with csecrions and have no issues and their experience is better than most vaginal births. Others have a hell of a time healing through recovery. I am the good group. My body heals so.quickly after csections and after my planned csection ill never understand how anyone would want to suffer through labor 😅 my recovery was just an absolute dream. 
However, this isn't the case for everyone, just for me. I only have my person experience and its exactly what that is, personal. I have friends who have struggled so hard after vaginal births but thats because birth in general is so unpredictable. Usually vaginal birth is better than csections. You heal quicker unless you have stitches down there then it might be the same time length. 
Just one thing to think about, emergency csections are almost always worse than planned csections. Its rare a planned csection is worse or of equal pain. 
If you have the option to do a vaginal birth, go for it because its most natural for your body.

I've never had a C-section before but vaginally it took me over a year to recover due to complications my son came out with both his hands up beside his face and I ripped sideways I ended up having to be re-stitched up five different times before going through three different outpatient surgeries then I finally went to a plastic surgeon for one more outpatient surgery and 6 weeks after that.. I finally healed up and was back to normal!!!  but it took over a year! So I guess really it would just depend on if there are any complications as I know there can be with c-sections as well.

My sister had 2 C-Sections & it took her a while to recover, probably 2-3 weeks to feel better & get up & do something. her scars took longer to heal bc the stitches would bust open.
