I can’t find jeans that fit me

To make a long story short, I didn’t wear jeans for 3 years, and now I want to start wearing them again but I’m struggling.

I tend to be a size XL, which coordinates to size 16. So I tried on size 16 jeans, they fit in the waist but no where else. They were really loose around my thighs and hips. So I tried on a size 14, they fit perfectly everywhere except for my waist, they were too small there. I’ve tried on these sizes in 3 different brands, so now I’m confused because like, neither size fits me and there’s not a size in between.
