Do you think choosing to have only 1 child is selfish?

Let me add, choosing to only have 1 child even though you had an easy and uncomplicated pregnancy, an easy baby, and are financially stable.
Is choosing for your child to not have siblings selfish?

In my case, I think having more than one child would be more selfish than not. Because I don’t have the mental and emotional capacity to give to another being. I don’t want to spread money across another child when I’m able to give my child what she needs and some of what she wants as well.

No. A lot of only children enjoy not having other siblings. Even if that’s not the case, you don’t owe it to anyone to have another child. It’s still your body and your life and having a child for the sake of someone else is wrong, imo.

My daughter has always wanted a sibling but my husband really didn’t want to bring another child into this wicked world but once he seen how she’s lonely sometimes and just really wants someone around her age to play with he decided that he will have one more for her. We started trying when she was 3... took us almost 3 years to conceive and this baby is due dec 14 2021 and our daughter was born dec 14 2014. They will be 7 years apart.. I would of loved for them to be 3-4 years apart but I was having fertility problems and couldn’t conceive until I tried preseed. She’s excited and can’t wait to meet her little sister.

I don't think selfish is necessarily the right word. My parents only had 1 child for financial/space reasons, and I wouldn't call that selfish. My room wasn't super small, but would have been tight if I had to share it and they couldn't afford to move.
But as the kid in that environment, it made me very sad growing up without siblings. Most of the people I know who grew up at only children don't want their kids to grow up that way. I want 4 kids and my good friend wanted 5. We're both having our 3rd this year.

As someone who is kinda anti social if I didn't have my brothers I don't know what I'd do I mean yeah we fought when we were kids but they also always had my back and we're my biggest protectors and now that we are all adults with kids of our own we still see each other quite often and get along so much better now and all our kids are very close. I can honestly say my brothers are my best friends and still continue to have my back. I don't think it's selfish though, it's your life and if you only want one then that's your decision but I'd think on it before doing anything permanent just because there are so many people who say they only want a set amount of kids and then a few years down the road they decide they would like another. One of my brothers has 4 daughter's and they totally thought after the twins that they were done but when they started considering permanent birth control solutions they came to the conclusion that they couldn't do it because they wanna have the door open for if they want more. Your child will make friends and alot of kids enjoy being an only child so just make the best decision for you.

My friend is an only child. She always mentions how she loved being the only kid in the house and is happy to not have siblings because she likes to be on her own/independent and doesn’t have to worry about staying in touch with anyone. She’s 25 now.
