How do I go about reporting someone punching my dog?

My ex was over having visitation with the kids and got upset with my dog and punched her in the face she yelled loudly. This isnt the time he has done this. This is the first time out of thr marriage. He has done this. In the marriage I didnt report his abuse to her because in the mean time I was being emotionally abused so I was always scared to do something. But my attorney said I can't prove anything from the past because nothing was reported. So im wondering if I should report this and wondering how to and how its done. Who to call?

Also I'm sorry to whoever thinks this is "dumb" please keep your judgmental comments to yourself. This is an abusive person I am dealing with. He did this infront of my son who saw it and now thinks its ok to hit our dogs. So this is not dumb. This is someone that I would rather not have around our children because of the abuse so I am doing what I can do protect the children and myself while in a custody battle. So again.
