LATE BIRTH STORY

Nisha

I went into the hospital4/27 to be induced at 4pm at 5:45 I was given cytotec to help with cervical ripening. I came in at 1 cm dilated 70% effaced and -3 station. Contractions were mild just felt like pressure and cramps. At 10 pm I was still only 1 cm dilated 80% effaced at -3 station. I was given another dose of cytotec and also dextrose thru IV to get baby moving more. A hour or so later MDs came and wanted to give me a foley balloon to help with dilation. It wasn’t as painful as I imagined but it got the contractions going!! I wasn’t in severe pain but every position in the bed was uncomfortable and contractions were coming back to back to back. I don’t remember what time I got my epidural but I did and that was awful. I had three attempts to get an epidural and contractions made everything 10x worse. They whole process seemed like an hour. The epidural had my body numb from waist down and gave me extreme shakes.About an hour or so after that the doctor removed the foley bulb and burst my water. The inserted an electrode on baby’s head to get better HR monitoring. The baby was showing no variability with the intense contractions which was not good. I had an amazing nurse who came in what seemed like every 6 minutes turning and repositioning me, trying to get baby to react. The epidural had me feeling great but my baby girl heart rate was dropping with each contraction. My nurse turned and repositioned me and applied oxygen for as long as she could. the doctors finally came in and informed me I would have to have an emergency c section. I balled my eyes out uncontrollably until I was taken into the OR, my boyfriend was by my side it made me feel a little better. I was still shaking intensely and i could feel nothing as they were cutting to get to baby. It took about 5 minutes to get her out. A couple minutes had gone by and I was terrified I didn’t here her cry. I asked the anesthesiologist that was at my head what was wrong, they said her oxygen level was low and she was on oxygen that’s why she hasn’t cried yet. I was terrified and the quickly overwhelmed with joy when I finally heard her cry. My boyfriend got to see her first which kind of upset me and he took a picture to show me. Finally she was brought over so I could see her.m, I didn’t hold her in the OR I was still shaking ridiculous and I was afraid to. She was born 4/28 at 4:22am, weight 7 pound 2 ounces, 20 inches long💕💕 This was the best moment of my life. I would do it all over again!!
