Abnormal paps during pregnancy?

Is it common to have abnormal paps during pregnancy? Im debating whether or not to refuse at my first prenatal tomorrow. I am a few months overdue for one. But I had an abnormal result with my first pregnancy. They did another pap at my postnatal visit and it was normal. Is this a common occurrence? I get horrible anxiety over pelvic exams of any kind, however i will gladly do it if its best. But last time i just had to retake it after pregnancy anyway. Wouldnt it make sense just to delay until after baby comes?

My doctor wouldn’t do them until postnatal. She said if anything abnormal was found, unless it was extreme (very advanced cancer, etc) there is nothing they would be able to do anyway until baby was born, so I held off.

I would refuse. It puts you at risk of bleeding and miscarriage. Also your hormones can give false positives. Happened to me a lot while breast feeding. I would decline unless you have a reason to do the test like you’re having symptoms.

I talked with my dr and because I only have my husband as a partner and have been having no issues she did a pelvic exam and just checked everything out that we would probably wait until after  baby comes to do a pap.

I would not refuse that. It’s important to be checked. If it comes abnormal, it could be ‘nothing’ again or it can end up different so you’d have to be monitored. I had abnormal for only 2 of my 5. Mine saw cancerous cells the second time.

I wouldn't wait. It's important to have an exam in the early stages of pregnancy as you could have an std or something else wrong that could be bad for your baby or possibly make you miscarry. Even if you've only been with that 1 person in this nasty world we live in you can't be to careful especially when it has to do with you and your unborn child's health.

I agree. I would wait till your 6 week pp. it’ll just cause more stress and we all know you don’t need that.

I would talk to your doctor. Since you’re only a few months over due then they would be able to advise you and take everything into consideration.
