Should all types of beauty pageants be banned ?

Do these pageants really benefit those who participate in them? Should they all be banned ? 
This is an article written by an eleventh grade girl and I believe she has an interesting point of view on beauty pageants. I know it mentions mostly about child beauty pageants, but couldn’t this also be applied to adult pageants as well.

Do you think there are pros and cons to beauty pageants?

It wouldn’t break my heart at all to get rid of  these pageants. The only pageant I like watching is the Miss Dimmsdale Pageant.

No. 
I don’t like the idea of arbitrarily banning things. You could make the same arguments about sports. Parents can get waaay to involved in them, and can contribute to body image issues and eating disorders. I don’t want them banned either. 
I don’t like parents though, and wouldn’t participate. Some of the companies behind them seem exploitative and shady as fuck. I’m fine with their specific practices being investigated, and individual ones being shut down if necessary.

After watching toddlers and tiaras I think they're tacky.
All that make up and hairstyles that can ruin your kids hair and skin for a possibility of winning a competition? Nah.
I think the adult ones are stupid too but at that point nobody is forcing them so 🤷🏾‍♀️

idk about the adult ones, like “miss [country]” and miss universe. i’ve never really watched any. though if the whole swimsuit “challenge” is still a thing then i absolutely believe there is still a large element of objectification. but i think there’s way the pageant industry (for adults) could change for the better. so idk if it needs to be banned completely. 
but child pageants feel exploitative, and i feel like those cause unhealthy relationships between children and their parents. also, i just feel like there’s a lot of child abuse going on behind child pageants.

Nah, it shouldn’t be banned. Honestly, children, kids and young teens still gets impacted by the beauty ideals, not just from the beauty pageants but also the Barbie dolls, girly girl characters on TV, words being conveyed by the mother or a family member or even from schools. There’s NO way to prevent them from being impacted by it. It’s everywhere and it’s hard to avoid it. So, it is pointless to ban this only one thing while the others will still impact the self esteem in young children no matter what.

There definitely more of an American thing....  If they happen over here they really aren't made a huge deal out of.
I have seen shows like toddlers and tiaras though and I feel like it's more than mothers pushing the daughters into into than daughters wanting to participate and find it overly tacky... It doesn't sit right with me putting fake tan on a child 
I don't think banning them will achieve match but I do think there should be more like rules and regulations put in place maybe... I've seen extreme cases where the mother's have the child on a diet that to me is gross unless  medically necessary

Not every child has this horrible experience with beauty pageants.  I did them from the age of 3 and my last one was 26. I loved them growing up and most girls in my pageant rank did as well. It was a great time to dress up and bond with our Moms, even some pageant Dads. My daughter did them for several years but unfortunately my husband job moves us all over the world and we just couldn't keep up. Shes almost 13 now and misses them. She takes so much pride in her accomplishments of trophies, crowns, banners and even prize money.

If that was the case, then we should cancel gymnastics, dance, etc. also because the same toxic mindsets can evolve from those. And some parents are just crazy and get way to over involved in anything and everything their kid does. I personally hate pageants 😂 but we could find a reason to ban/cancel anything if we look hard enough.

No. Shitty parents will always find a way to make children feel like shit. I do think child beauty pageants should be redesigned to be more like a talent show than who looks prettier & rules put in place that competitive parents be banned, no makeup, & things like that. They could also keep therapists on hand to make sure anyone who starts feeling pressured or feeling not good enough gets help. But the thing that really needs changed is people. There's people who force their kids to be smart or study all the time. People force their kids into sports. If we're talking about banning things then football should be mentioned. People have died and become permanently disabled or disfigured because of football & we still haven't done anything to make it safer. My brother in law is one of those "my son will play football" types. Schools will make teachers pass football players just so they can play. & cheerleaders & wrestlers are highly likely to develop eating disorders, too, since they have to meet certain weight requirements.
