Is it normal for the Nipt test to cost extra? My doctor said it's elective so insurance may not cover it.

I don’t think it’s covered unless the mother is a certain age or there’s a specific reason why having it done would benefit her. Mine would have been $300 but we opted out.

mine was billed $10,505 to my insurance & my copay was $560 after insurance paid the rest but i submitted a claim & paid $0 thanks to my insurance. when they offered the test they told me it would be $200 which clearly that was a lie, i did the NIPT test with Natera

I’m a dependent on my step moms insurance & 25 & it was covered for me. I did have a miscarriage prior to this pregnancy but they didn’t ask me that when giving me the cost.

Totally depends where you live and how your country provides health insurance. Then it varies everywhere what's covered. Where I live it's covered if the fts with nuchal screening is positive then they cover nipt. It's also covered during covid of they don't offer the nuchal screening where you live. It's about $500 here for private pay.

Mine was fully covered and I was not high risk and under 35. I believe mine was covered though because my OB was not offering the NT scan due to covid, so they offered NIPT instead. Tbh, I would’ve paid out of pocket to have it done if insurance didn’t cover it.

Normal. We were supposed to pay $300 but the company that we did it through had a program for those how don't make that much a year to pay less so we had to pay only $100. We had to send them my husbands pay stub.

I thought it only costs anything out of pocket if you wanted the early gender included. I'm sorry if that's not the case for you! Idk I feel like since it's a very medically packed set of tests it should be covered for everyone. We find out a lot of important stuff with those, ya know.

That's odd. Think it depends on your insurance and the state because mine was covered before I was considered high risk.

Dr. Recommend for anyone. Not all insurances cover it yet but one day they will. It used to be more expensive and only if you were more "higher risk" but yes it's around 300.
