Tips for first time moms from an experienced Mom
1. Car seat safety(and safe sleep environments) is not a parenting choice! Do it right every time.
2. Your mom, sister, brother, cousin, MIL, bff who had a kid 2yrs ago may have OUTDATED advice on how to take care of your child. Ask your Dr and google everything. Look up the meaning of Survivor Bias. Do what you believe is best, always.
3. You cant spoil your baby. Its okay to run to their cries, and its okay to hold your baby.
4. Take care of yourself, the baby may cry but put them somewhere safe(or wait for a nap time) and take a shower, brush your hair and teeth. Its essential to your sanity!
5. If buying used baby products, check for recalls. Again, look up survivor bias.
6. If your baby gets diaper rashes repeatedly even with frequent changes, it can be because of the brand of diaper/wipes. Not something youre doing wrong.
7. Your baby does NOT need diaper rash cream at every diaper change unless they have a diaper rash. You can use products like Aquaphor to prevent rashes(or nothing at all), but use products with zinc to HEAL rashes. No thin layer either, lay it on thick! Your baby will thank you. Baby powder is not necessary.
8. Infant Tylenol and Childrens Tylenol are the exact same thing. Childrens comes with a cup instead of a syringe for babies, ask your pharmacy for a syringe. Take a picture of the Infant Tylenol dosing label information.
9. If you fed your baby, burped and little while later they are crying but you cant figure out why, try burping again. Also try burping halfway through a feeding session and again after for gassy babies. Moving hips around helps.
10. If you feel something is wrong or off, do something about it. Better be safe than sorry.
Of course with any advice always ask your Doctor. These are things I learned the hard way and passing it along to help someone else.
