Baby changings

I’m a first time mom due in July, I’m planning on having baby sleep in a bassinet next to our bed for the first 6ish months.

My question is, how should I go about changings in the middle of the night? We have nowhere to put a full on changing table or dresser-top changing pad, our room is small. I don’t want to take him to his nursery across the house to change him. Would using a portable changing pad in bed be fine? Or would it be too messy?

May be a dumb question, I’d rather just change him in bed and stay in bed to nurse him and put him back to sleep, but I’m worried it will be too messy to do in bed?
