I was Told miscarriages are common with letroloze and trigger shot?

On Saturday I miscarried our 2nd baby at 6 weeks pregnant...at the ER, a OB came in and said that it is very common for women who have treatments such as Letrozole and trigger shots to miscarry because you “force the egg to grow and release”.... I’m so heartbroken....it took us over 4 years to have our first...and I’m so afraid it’ll be the same with our second...shes almost 3...thoughts?

I have never once heard of that. It wouldn't be a fertility treatment if that were the case. Miscarriages are common regardless of how you got pregnant.

That sounds completely wrong. I am so sorry for your loss. ER docs and hospital OBs don’t necessarily know that much about reproductive endocrinology.

This OB is full of shit. Sorry about your loss. Most miscarriages happen because of chromosomal abnormalities. I’d find a fertility clinic and run the recurrent pregnancy loss panel. Sorry that you’ve found someone uneducated like that. Probably she also believes that IVF is wrong.

She didn’t describe that to you correctly at all. Women who need fertility treatment might have more miscarriages because we have various issues that make pregnancy difficult. But the medications themselves are not causing it.

An OB at the ER is not going to be educated about fertility treatment.  Miscarriage is common period.  1 in 4 women is no small statistic.  Speak to you fertility doctor if you are concerned, but I’ve found doctors outside fertility medicine don’t know enough to be giving infertility patients advice or commentary.

I have never heard that and think it’s rather insensitive to say something like that to someone who is struggling to conceive and has had a miscarriage. I don’t think you should pay too much attention to a Dr who is not a fertility specialist. Unfortunately early lossses are more common than most people realise.

Not true. My doctor said miscarriage risk actually decreases a bit with Letrozole due to the strengthening of the uterine lining.
