Colton’s birth story

Tori

So it was around 840 In the morning on June tenth. My husband just left for work for the day and bonus daughter Missy and I were hanging out.

I got up to do some thing I think take a shower and thought I Peed myself so I went to the bathroom. Went P and then realized it wasn’t stopping. Called the nurse triage line and explained what I saw, because after 30 minutes it was still a slow trickle coming out. Once we confirmed it was probably my water that broke I called Riley and he met me at his moms where we dropped off Missy and headed to the hospital. I remember joking that was super anti-climactic because we were listening to podcasts in the car and I was having contractions it was super calm. We got to the hospital and brought in the go bag and I made a joke about how I probably just Peed myself and will be going home that night, because in all intensive purposes we had just made plans to go out to the movies and see Croods two. So I got in there I got hooked up to the machines the doctor came in to see me and confirmed I did in fact break my water so they started the admissions process to get me up to labor and delivery room. The first climactic moment of the day was shortly after they brought Riley up into the triage room, Colton‘s heart rate took a little bit of a dive and next thing you know there was five nurses and the doctor they put oxygen on me and they were turning me all around. I guess weird your water breaks the baby can lay on its umbilical cord and cause some stress. Remember looking at Riley and joking saying is it climactic enough for you. We got up and labor and delivery room and they started my Pitocin I started bouncing on the bouncy ball And sent Riley down the cafeteria to grab some food from himself because I had a feeling there’s gonna be a long afternoon. While it bounced the contractions got a little noticeable but nothing horrible. Ri got back and we both snacked on some food. That’s when I decided to get up and we went for a walk around the labor and delivery floor where my contractions really started kicking in. By the time I got back in the room there about 2 to 3 minutes apart and Dr. Boone came in to say hi! That was pretty funny at that point I ask for the epidural and they came in about 310 the epidural I’m not gonna lie hurt like heck but totally worth it because the contractions hurt a lot worse once I had that in it took a little bit of time to get everything situated where I didn’t feel the contractions anymore. I can still feel the pressure but it wasn’t bad. The hospital TV didn’t really have much so we watched like five episodes of beat Bobby Flay and I can honestly say I don’t want to watch it again, I did have like five Popsicles as well so that was pretty cool. The nurse came in around eight something to check me because I swore I had to poop and she said that I was a six and little man was comfy. About 15 minutes after that Colton‘s heart rate took a dive again So per the usual all the nurses and the doctor came in and when the doctor checked me I was at a 10 and said it was baby time. I remember just looking at Riley laughing saying well guess this is it. I got through about four rounds of pushing before he was crowning and I told Riley that one I felt like I had to poop and two I was gonna pass out but he was so strong for encouragement. During my first set of pushing his head came out and I was about to give up that round butThe doctor said I needed to push because he was right there so I did and there it was he was here. It was such a surreal moment and it’s completely true what they say when you don’t remember the pain I was like my heart was outside of my chest when they handed them to me. They cleaned them up and I actually asked for him to be handed to Riley because plot twist there’s something called labor shakes and I was not doing OK with them. It was a beautiful thing to watch Riley with his newborn son for the first time watching

I’m so intently I don’t think I’ve ever loved him more than that moment but each day it seems to grow more. The last 2 weeks have

been a blur but I’m excited to say that we’re getting a hang of it little by little.
