Do you allow sleep overs?

Question

I have 2 girls, neither are old enough for sleep overs yet, but the topic came up with a friend today and my husband and I have talked about it before. 
I use to love them as a kid, but looking back there were some situations that could have been a lot worse than they were (not that they were good), usually involving a friends’ older brother of friends of their brothers. 
How do you handle sleep overs? 
Am I being paranoid? 
We have talked about just letting the girls have sleep overs at our house, but worry that might be confusing to them or offensive to their friends. 
We’ve heard of people just not allowing sleep overs period at their house or a friends. We’ve also thought about just saying sleep overs with family only—like at their grandparents.

I won’t be allowing sleepovers anywhere other than at her one cousins house. She can have her friends sleepover here but there are just too many unknowns in other situations and homes.

My parents were kind of strict about sleepovers. They would let any of our female friends stay the night, but they were very cautious of me and my sister spending the night places. They had to know the parents of the other kid and speak to them over the phone first. As a kid, it was kind of embarrassing. As an adult, I get it. 
My boys (4, 2, and 1) are not old enough for sleepovers yet. I haven't even let them stay overnight with family except twice for my 4 y/o when I was in labor with his brothers and once for my 2 y/o when I was in labor with the youngest. 
I'm not sure how I will feel about sleepovers when they are older. I know, no matter what, I will have to speak to the parents over the phone and make sure there is supervision and make sure they don't plan to drop the kids off alone anywhere or anything like that. But it is quite a while in the future before I will feel comfortable with any of my children staying the night away from home.

I adored sleepovers as a child. Absolutely loved them. They were my favorite. 
My kids are 9 and 11. They’ve both slept at friend’s houses, my 9 year old daughter especially. She loves them as much as I did. We’ve also had their friends sleep over her (that’s so exhausting, sheesh).
I’ll continue to allow sleepovers. My kids are smart and we have a good relationship. They know they can always call me if they want to come home. They know what’s appropriate and what isn’t, and they know they can and should always talk to me about anything that upsets them or makes them feel uncomfortable.

I used to think my mom was so mean for not letting me go to sleepovers. Now I understand how she was trying to protect me. You never know when someone has an older brother, a family friend, a step father who would take advantage of a kid sleeping over at their house. 
I think for my own kids I’ll let others stay over at our house, but have a very select list of families they can stay over at

Only sleepovers with the grandparents. Sleepovers with friends are not necessary for life skills or anything else like that. I also may not host sleepovers because I don’t want to be in charge of somebody’s else’s kids, but that could change with time because i do want my home to be a safe space for everyone in it. I’ve seen and heard way too many bad things happening at sleep overs from children being molested to being killed by their “friends” or friends fathers or brothers. 
I’ve heard many people use the “well you can’t protect them from everything” sure you can’t but there are certain things you can, making sure they aren’t harmed because of sleepovers is one of them. I never had sleepovers and I’m perfectly fine without them. 
I also only allowed sleeping over at my moms when my daughter could sleep through the night, knows that nobody is allowed to touch her in her private areas, and she knows the names to her private areas. I know my mom would never harm my daughter but it’s still important for me and my daughter that she knows all those things.

I loved sleepovers so much as a child. I lived in a very tight nit community and my parents knew all the other parents very well. I will have no problem having my girl have sleepovers at her friends houses and host them at mine.

Growing up in a Mexican household, sleep overs were not allowed at our home or friends/family. Just to avoid any unwanted situation from happening to me or to a friend/cousin. Thankfully my mom was honest as to why it wasn’t allowed and I think it made it easier to understand. She explained how bad things can happen and that it was for my own safety.

Depends on where they want to sleep over but I loved them as a kid and my friend and I just rotated our houses the entire summer haha If my gut trusts them situation they’ll be allowed to stay.

No sleepovers. With the world we live in and the things I’ve heard that can happen at sleepovers, i will absolutely not allow it. Only sleepovers are at both grandmothers’ houses. I also won’t host any sleepovers. Friends can come over and she can hang out at her friends’ house so long as the parents and I have spoken and at least an adult is present in the home. But even then I feel like I’d have a bit of trouble allowing. I just personally wouldn’t want to allow my daughter to be in a situation where someone could hurt her.
