Why are some people so entitled

Question

I find it hard being friends with this girl because she always seems so entitled. She says and does whatever she wants to whoever she wants. She asked if I pay rent since I live with my grandparents and I told her yes, I’m 26 I wouldn’t feel like right not paying rent. She went on a rant talking about how “shitty” my family is for making family pay rent and that she’s living with her parents and they don’t charge her anything because they love her and want her to be able to save her money and do well for herself. This girl is 29. I’m so over her attitude. Would you guys find it weird if you were charged rent if you lived with family?
Let me just add: I don’t see an issue living somewhere rent free I just think it’s an issue to EXPECT to live in someone else’s home rent free and say they’re shitty if they don’t allow that.

She’ll have a sharp shock when she eventually moves out and has to pay bills! Part of charging your kids rent is to teach them how to manage money and it gives them a little taster of what it would be like living away from home. Nothing is free in this world and she’s obviously been spoiled by her parents, her parents wont always be around…she needs to grow up

My family wouldn't make me pay rent if I lived with them. I lived with my family after college for a year. I saved up $20k and bought a house. I wouldn't make my children either if they were living at home after 18. I would expect them to be saving money though.

If her family are well-off enough that they don’t need to charge rent, good for them. Sadly not all families are the same and bills need to be split between everyone under the same roof 🤷‍♀️ it’s a shame she doesn’t understand that not everyone is financially stable in life. 
Cut ties with her if it’s hard being her friend. You don’t need any unnecessary toxicity in your life.

Depends  on the situation. We have allowed family  to live with us rent free and we have charged  rent. It is a case by case choice. No one should expect  free rent.

My husband, 2 kids myself lived with my in laws and they didn't charge us. We lived in an in law suite apartment attached to the main house. They literally bought the house with us in mind, hoping we would love there a while. We stayed 4 years. They really liked having us around and were sad when we bought our own house we moved out.

No right or wrong way. Some people don’t pay rent but take on a house bill, ect. If you feel comfortable helping your grandparents that’s what’s right for you and your family then. Ignore her, she’s been a hater I think.
