Would you name your child same name as cousin?

I LOVE the name Theodore specifically because I want to call him Teddy! 
My SIL (knew this) named her son Edward and requested everyone call him Teddy and no one is aloud to call him Edward.. I do not want to call my son Theo or Teo or Ted I want to call him Teddy, I also don't want him to be Teddy2 or anything like that. I have searched lists and cannot find ANYTHING I love as much as this name! Nothing grabs my attention AT ALL!
These kids will be super close! Always seeing each other multiple times a week!
I dont know gender yet but I want to be prepared!

If it was cousins that were only going to see each other once or twice a year I would do it. But if these boys will be with each other multiple times a week then it’s inevitable that your son will be called something different to avoid confusion.

For those who don't know, Teddy is a common nickname for Edward too. A famous bearer is senator Edward Kennedy, who went by Ted/Teddy. 
Anyway, personally speaking, if I loved the name, I would use it. I also come from a family that had many Mary's, John's & Michael's. It wasn't a big deal, nor caused chaos. Nobody owns a name. If she has an issue with it, too bad. She knew you adored the name.
If you did want to go with a different nickname outside of Theo & Teddy & Teo (btw I think Teo is adorable & a much cooler nickname than Teddy, but that is just my opinion)......
Other nickname ideas: Thor, Todd, Bear (I actually like Bear better than Teddy too). Teedie!(which was President Roosevelt's nickname growing up).

She knew what you wanted and chose to still do it anyway. So why can’t you still do what you wanted? People don’t own names. Maybe if you had a Theodore/Teddy she’d start calling her own kid Edward or eddy

So rude of SIL to use your nickname!  With the name Edward it makes zero sense and is simply a clear choice to use the name you love. What is her explanation for using that nickname?  Maybe you can ask her to change his nickname to COPY CAT or CC once yours is born - lol! 
A few thoughts - I honestly think Theo is adorable and will be more timeless - can last entire life and be used as a professional name.  Teddy is absolutely adorable for a little boy but don’t know if it lasts past grade school.  Copy cat Teddy will likely become Ed!
Also - casual nicknames will likely pop up once baby is born - I do have lots of unexpected nicknames for my children but they are not names I ask others to use.
