Antidepressants one month before birth

Joana

Hello,

Im 27 weeks pregnant and already had up and downs with some depression and anxiety so far Ive coped well but im scared it might get out of control after I give birth.

This is my second baby, with my first I had horrible PPD and anxiety to the point I couldn’t function. This second time around im already having the symptoms during pregnancy, given that my chances of getting ppd again are very possible, I want to be more prepared to ensure I am well for my family. Im in the process of scheduling to see a therapist, im hiring someone to cook and clean for me after I give birth and this time im allowing all the help I can get from friends and family, and capsulating my placenta which might help or not but willing to give it a try and lastly taking some natural supplement for mood support including omega 3s, vitamin D and magnesium.

However, my OB told me I could start taking antidepressants one month before birth which makes sense dont want to wait to not feel well then have to wait for them to work but im horrified that it might affect the baby, my first born son is in the autism spectrum and in worried I might increase the chances for my second boy by taking these antidepressants while pregnant but at the same time im divided because I want to do everything I can to be well for my children.
