Getting Induced?

Question

I see so many posts of women being induced on or a little before their due date. Why is everyone being induced? Medical reasons? Just curious since my doctor will not induce me and it seems like I will be going past my due date.

Right? I get wanting baby out, and I get if there’s a medical reason, but it makes me a little sad. I wish people knew how much higher the c-section rate is with inductions than when you go into labor naturally.
I wish more women trusted their bodies to do what they were designed to do, and that more doctors would encourage that too. It sucks that I’m past due, but I’m also thankful for my birth team that reminds me that that’s normal.

I’ve been wondering the same thing. 
I live abroad in France and the only time they induce is if absolutely medically necessary, or at 41+6. 
Reading Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth really explains all the different options and risks with medical intervention when not necessary. That of course doesn’t mean that people don’t have successful inductions or that every induction ends in a c section but… yeah. Not a risk I want to take, personally.

I was induced at 39 weeks because there is scientific stats showing that a baby induce at 39 weeks or after have the same results as a baby born naturally. I personally asked to be induced to how hard it was being pregnant the last 2 weeks. I was getting 1 hour of sleep a nice. Constantly sick and the swelling was out of control. My baby girl came with 7 hours and is perfect.

Honestly mine is elective, I was shocked that they let me before 41 weeks. I casually asked if they allowed elective inductions at my 38 week appointment and at my 39 week appointment they asked me if I still wanted one. That was yesterday and I’m being induced at this moment! I don’t regret it at all. I was having lots of anxiety of going past 39/40 weeks because of this being an IVF pregnancy. So far so good!

I was induced with my last baby at 42 weeks. The birth was super fast and I was actually mostly dilated when I walked in for the induction and didn’t know it. I’m considering induction this time because I’m scared of delivering my baby alone at home if my water breaks.

The ARRIVE study convinced a lot of practitioners that induction at 39 weeks is favorable because it lowered cesarean rate by 3%. I’ve noticed even midwives are more open to membrane sweeps in healthy pregnancies at 39 weeks now. The issue is this study also had recommendations for providers to follow regarding how long to wait before performing a cesarean on the patient, which could account for the lower cesarean rate on this study. When you compare the 3% improvement in cesarean rate in the ARRIVE study vs the 16% improvement in cesarean rate when giving birth at a birth center, makes the assumption that induction= good look silly, IMO.

I’m hoping to be induced Week 39. No medical reasoning, no complications and perfect sized baby. But I own two small cafes and this summer staffing has been a nightmare, if I go late, I won’t get to spend as much quality time with my newborn as I’d want/need too. Everyone has their reasonings. This time has been unpredictable for us all so, it’s definitely not what I want, but it’s too stressful otherwise.

Today is my due date but I was induced yesterday. My little guy was measuring big since 24 weeks and they were worried about him being too big. I was also having contractions and already dilated to almost 4 so they just helped the process along.
