Life insurance policies?

So me and my partner are in our 20s and are thinking about taking out life insurance policies. We're both young and healthy, but in my city people are getting killed everyday at any age. We just want our son or the other to be set if anything happens. We live in the upper part of the city so luckily there's not much crime, but we are in the inner city a lot and we just want to be prepared.

I was wondering if any other couple has a life insurance policy. When did you take them out and how old are you? Is it worth it or should we wait? And which company do you recommend going through?
