Babies do eventually learn to sleep on their own right?

My baby is 1.5 and still needs my help to fall asleep.. babies eventually fall asleep on their own right?! Surely he won’t reach 3/4/5 etc and still need me to help him sleep?! I need reassurance cause I’ve been doing this since the day he was out the womb

Yes they will, you may need to help teach them.
Putting them in their crib drowsy and not fully asleep so they learn to fall asleep without you.
I’m struggling with this with my third baby currently. She’s 7 months and it’s a struggle!
We’ve started laying her in her crib and letting her fuss and whine till she falls asleep. I don’t let her cry her head off, but she’s cried for about 10 minutes and calmed down. (I’m not a fan of the cry it out method, but I don’t mind her fussing around for a small period of time)
She’s got a full belly, she’s dry and she’s sleepy so I know she’s ok.
It’s so hard doing it but she has fallen asleep everytime so far. I’ve only been trying it for two days now!
I know it will slowly get better and better the more she gets used to it.
It will be a process that’s for sure!
Create a solid routine and stick to it.

I held my son every night at bedtime until one night he said he just wanted to lay down.  He was 2.5 years old when that happened.  I would have continued rocking to sleep but he didn’t need it anymore so now he puts himself to sleep every night.  He is 2 years and 10 months now.

Yes but you'll probably need to teach them. Bedtime routines help because then they know what to expect.

My daughter is almost five years old and still wont give up her usual bedtime routine. Family teeth brush. Story from me story from dad and asleep!
