Is this odd/inappropriate or am I overreacting?
Now this doesn't happen to me but its happening to my sister in-law. Lately her father (my FIL) has been making inappropriate comments towards her body. Anytime she has a second serving of dinner or snacks he always mentions it. He himself isn't thin and is pre-diabetic. Now I would see this as maybe a concern for her health but he doesn't do it with his sons who often go back for 3rds or even 4ths for dinner.
The other day at the lake she mentioned her chest starting to burn and asked for sunscreen. He said, "if you covered up it wouldn't burn." She was just wearing a bathing suit, everyone in their family is pretty well endowed so its genetic. Then he turned to everyone and said, "it doesn't matter if they burn as long as everyone can see them right (her name)?" I saw her face fall and she mentioned getting a different bathing suit next year that would cover her entire upper body.
Other instances have been mentioning stubble on her legs, saying its gross (he wasn't joking) and he likes it when women shave. When her pants were falling down he asked if she was wearing underwear. Also talking about how big her butt had gotten.
I don't have a good relationship with my dad, we almost never talk, but this doesn't seem appropriate to me like it makes me ill just thinking about it. No one else in the family seems to find this too odd, my husband hasn't been around when this happens so he doesn't really have an opinion. In the 7 years I have known them I've never heard him make these comments until this year.
