Genetic testing?

Husband and I are first time parents and talking about genetic testing after the doctor brought it up at our last appointment. I’m almost 10 weeks. We can’t decide if we want to do it or not. (No family history of anything). Wondering if you did or didn’t do it and why! Thanks!

We did it and had no family history. Worth it to me.

I work in Genetics and most of the families we see do NOT have a family history of genetic disorders. The genetic changes are either brand new in the child (like some of the chromosomal problems that can be detected with NIPT) or they’re for a disorder that both parents are carriers for and didn’t know about until they had a baby with each other.
Whether or not to do testing prenatally is definitely a personal and family decision! I am not trying to sway you! I would just encourage you not to consider your family history when making the decision. 🙂

So I did the NIPT just to feel reassured just in case. Worst case scenario I figured I’d be prepared and best case I’d just feel happy knowing. Got my results back today and everything was negative for us thank god. We also got to find out the sex of the baby before our anatomy scan 🥰 I’m 16 weeks and we’re set to go at 20.

We did the genetic testing. I’m glad we did, just in order to be as prepared as possible.

We only do the testing done through the blood not amniotic fluid. There are too many risks and we feel more comfortable with only the tests that can be ran through my blood.

Yes we did and we regretted it for both. We got out through hell for two false positives for high risk factors for conditions

We didn’t do with either of our children because of the cost and have no regrets. If you know of any family history that would cause problems in pregnancy then you should consider it. Double check with insurance to see if they cover any portion of it.

I did! Helped me feel better waiting until the anatomy scan at 20 weeks + we got to learn the gemer early + my insurance covers it

It’s very worth it. We also don’t have any history but it’s better to know them not to know.
