Does writing how feel, help you deal with it?

Since November, I’ve been dealing with a lot. I lost my Nan, my cat, my dad is really ill & is waiting for a heart op, stresses at work & now I’ve just had my heart broken. I have a history of severe depression, but I don’t want to go back on antidepressants, does anyone find writing your feels down, help you deal with what’s going on in your head?
