9 month old doesn’t fall asleep on his own?

My son is 9 months and there is no way I could EVER just lay him down when he’s tired and him go to sleep. I have to rock him to sleep.. then if I set him down and he wakes up, I have to rock him again. Yes after I rock him & lay him down, I’ve tried to walk out and let him cry for a minute.. bc sometimes he will fall asleep after a minute or so. But most of the time no way. I always have to rock. He will scream and scream for hours if I don’t put him to sleep. Is this normal? I see other people with children my sons age not go thru this at all. I’m a FTM so I’m really learning here.

I held my son every single night to go to sleep until one night when he was about 2.5 years old,  he asked to just lay down and since then he goes to sleep on his own. Do you not want to rock him to sleep? If so, then sleep training will be necessary. But otherwise, he’s a baby for a very short amount of time. There should be no rush getting him to grow up.

It’s completely biologically normal for an infant to need help to sleep.  There’s nothing wrong with them if they do and you’re not hurting them by comforting them to sleep.  I rocked/nursed my son to sleep until just a few months ago and he’ll be 2 next month.  Now he lays down nicely at bedtime and goes to sleep on his own.  I miss our sleepy time cuddles.  Enjoy them while you have them

Oh girl I feel you!! I thought my kid was never going to ever go to sleep on his own!! Like I cried so many of my own tears and no one else seemed to understand! We didn’t go anywhere still kind of don’t because my little guy has to have everything just so or he just doesn’t sleep. The light at the end of the tunnel is that one night around 15 months he asked for night night and I took him to his room and lay him down with his blankets and stuffed animal and ever since he’s been going down on his own!! I nursed him to sleep at nap time and would hurry to lay him down so I could run off to work. If I didn’t lay him down just so and he woke up gah it was a nightmare!! We’d have to start all over. I did look into “gentle loving sleep” she’s got classes to sleep train but luckily we never needed to use it. I was just getting to my wits end and didn’t think I could go on when he decided he was okay to go down on his own.

My son is 9 months old and I cuddle him until he's sleepy then set him down. Sometimes it takes less than 20 minutes and majority of times up to 2 hours. I honestly wouldn't change it. I enjoy our routine and the bond it creates. 
But you need to find what works for you. Read about some sleep training methods and determine what's best for you. However, developmentally it is normal and every baby is different and they respond in their own way to sleep methods.

It’s normal for lots of kids, every baby is different. My daughter needed all the help to sleep until she was around 18 months old. My son is 8 months old and basically has been putting himself to sleep since he came out. You could try sleep training or ride it out until he gets older

We sleep trained, it was the best thing we ever did for us. We used the Facebook group respectful sleep training/learning to learn more about different methods and for support. The first night was the most difficult for me because I was in the habit of nursing her to sleep then rocking her for about 2 hours before I could set her down. We ended up usimg huckleberry premium to create a strong plan.
