What helps with the uncontrollable itching that comes after a c section

So I'm currently pregnant with my 3rd and possibly last baby. My 2 previous pregnancies ended in c section and in the recovery room both times I got extremely itchy. It drove me absolutely batty. The first time they offered meds and I refused thinking I could handle it on my own. I was totally wrong and by the next morning I scratched my face raw. So when I started to feel itchy after my second c section I promptly told the nurses that I was starting to feel itchy and was hoping I could actually get something to stop it this time. They literally laughed at me saying the only thing they could give me would be Benadryl and they wouldn't because I wasn't in a position to be drowsy since I had a new born to look after. So once again I scratched my face raw. Has anyone else had this happen? Any advice? Should I just bring my own Benadryl?
