Separation anxiety or typical?

Ashley

Hi all!

My LO daycare recently (last week Monday) started allowing parents to drop off kids into their classroom since March 2020 (my daughter started daycare Jan 2020). Since the new shift every single day she SCREAMS and CLINGS to me and refuses to let go or let me put her down. This goes on for 20-30 mins before the director or another teacher has to come and intercept her to distract enough for me to slip out.

This has been REALLY tough on me emotionally and I’m not sure why she’s doing this. There’s only a small amount of kids that I’ve observed that do this in her class but not to my daughter’s extent.

When I leave a few mins after they take pictures of her fine and smiling like nothing happened. 😩🤷‍♀️

Suggestions? Or is anyone else experiencing this? As a therapist myself, my brain goes all over as to why she’s doing this but I’m trying to remove my “professional” brain from my “mom” brain to allow to be more present with her in these moments.

Thoughts? Ideas? Is this normal or possible anxiety?

Thanks!
