taking a break..what to do?

last night my boyfriend said we should take a break because he hadn’t had really much time to focus on himself especially since were starting high school. Deep down I know it’s a good idea but I don’t want it to happen because I love him a lot and I’m afraid I’ll lose him for good. He said he wants to take a break and it’s not gonna be a break up but we all know that it’s going to turn into one in a matter of time. I fell sleep crying last night and I woke up crying. i dont know what to do cause hes my person and my first love. i never wanted to go through this with him. I need help on what to do so if you have any tips or advice please send them this way💗
