Sleeping with a blanket?

Question

I know they say baby isn’t supposed to sleep with a blanket for up to 12 months to avoid suffocating, but would it be fine to lay a blanket down for him to sleep ON TOP of? I’m due in 3 days tomorrow and I got a co sleeper from someone in town and it’s a little dirty so I was going to tuck a blanket in around it so he doesn’t have to lay directly on it. But I’m scared of him pulling it and not being able to breathe. Thanks mommas!

A newborn should have nothing in their crib. A tight fitted sheet and that’s it.

I always used blankets, my kids needed them to fall asleep. Then I moved them 🤷🏻‍♀️

Here the recommendation is baby sized duvet from birth. They even get a duvet at the hospital. Also used wool blankets because both mine are born mid winter. 
I know the recommendations in the US is different - yet the infant mortality rate here is way lower...

You should be able to get a tight fitted sheet and/or mattress protector that fits it!

Mine slept in a sheet or blanket tucked into the edges. After birth they used a pillow case as the bassinet sheet in the hospital. 
I would def clean the pad or get a new one. Some people are nasty when it comes to second hand stuff

No blankets at all. All that should be in there is a fitted sheet.

I’ve always used a blanket but I tuck it so that only half of the bed is covered up to baby’s chest and then it’s tucked tightly under the mattress from the end of the bed so baby can’t kick or pull it up any further. I know it isn’t technically safe sleep but I feel safe enough that the blanket cant be pulled near his face even if I pull on it.
