Magnesium for anxiety

I heard magnesium was a great substitute for anxiety meds and due to the side effects I would choose not to be on them. I started taking a vitamin called cal-mag which is magnesium calcium vitamin d in one. I take two so I can get 300 mg of magnesium. Has this worked for anyone and when did you start to see a difference.
