If a name is popular/overused but you love it, would you still use it?

Question

My partner and I have chosen Lily Mae as our second daughters first and middle name. We absolutely love it but some friends have said that it's too common to use now. 
We are more traditional and like the 'common', 'normal' names. His son from a previous relationship is called Leo Enzo and our oldest daughter together is called Hollie Grace. 
Would you use a name that is really popular/overused' if you loved it?!
I've never understood people not using a name because it's popular. 
If I love a name, why wouldn't I use it?

I don’t even think Lily is that popular or overused right now, so I think you’re worrying about nothing. But no matter what, if you love a name just go for it. Noah is the most popular boys name for years now but I love it. I did do a twist because I have a daughter, not a son, and I named her Noah. Same middle name you’re thinking of - Mae - because that’s my grandmothers middle name and I love it.

I don’t think lily is that popular? I would have to look it up I guess. I have a personal rule for myself. I will not use any name in the top 10-20 from the previous year. My name was #2 for the year I was born and I’ve always hated it because of that so I won’t do that to my child. I love quite a few names in the recent years top 10, but won’t use them. That’s my personal take on it. Everyone can name their kids whatever they want though, it’s their choice.

I have loved Isla for over 20 years. I was certain it would be my daughters name one day...then BAM, it's everywhere... So we decided to not use it. Sad, but I just couldn't.

I agree, if you love a name use it. Nowadays “popular” is not what it was back in the day… there is a much wider variety of names today overall that even more popular names are not being used nearly as much as popular names were in the 80s or 90s if that makes sense.

Definitely yes. I have spent my whole career working with more kids than I can count and my partner spent years as a nanny. We had enough problems choosing names without negative associations or that reminded us of a particular person. Popularity was irrelevant.
We didn’t find out the sex until I gave birth so had a short list for each. There were literally only 2 girls’ names that I liked though. And only 1 that I would’ve like enough to name my baby. Fortunately it was a boy!

I have been trying really hard to think of a more unique name for my daughter but literally every name that my SO and I agree on is on the most popular name list this year. Decided just to use a common name since I love it. Amelia Roselyn

Lily Mae is my nieces name …. She is 18. I don’t feel like that is an overused name . Regardless if you love the name; use it!
