Dealing with baby hair

I need some guidance ladies. My baby was born with a head FULL of thick hair and at first I thought that was great but recently I noticed it keeps a lot of heat in and she starts to get hot and sweaty and very fussy. I've been dealing with it for about a month now.

Someone told me to cut her hair but i don't know if that is safe nor do i want to cut her hair. Is it safe to "style" it somehow to reveal the scalp? Any other tips than cutting her hair. She is 7 months old. Afro baby with afro hair.

P.s. I tried combing her hair maybe twice before. I didn't get anywhere. It was torture for the both of us because she kept moving and I was afraid i would hurt her but I'm willing to try again.
