Any suggestions on a new and very shy kitty?

Hello. I just adopted a cat today. He is extremely shy and hasn’t came out from hiding underneath my bed. I put food and water and his litter box nearby but he will not come out or move from that same spot. Should I just give him time? How long will it take him to break out of his shell? I’m nervous that he won’t. I just want him to be comfortable with me.

Just give the kitten time! Loads of time. We adopted an "unadoptable cat" from the local shelter in 2016, it took  over a year before I was even allowed to touch her, and another year or so before she actively came to me for attention or to be petted. She still to this day hate tall men and shoes.

Give him time and patience. Don't try force him, don't do anything on your terms. When we rescued our one cat it took her a month to be brave enough to come out the room.

Put a shirt that you’ve worn in their bed and give it time. Trust me, it won’t be long until they’re raising hell all hours of the night lol.

He’ll come around just give him time and be patient! A shelter is a way different environment and he needs time to adjust. Just leave him and go in a different room, and when he comes out, just let him explore at his own pace alone and let him approach you, don’t approach him.

Give him time. You can also put a shirt that smells like you near by so he gets used to your smell.
