Brown spotting

I’m 38 weeks + 3 days and at my appointment yesterday I was tested to see if my water has broken because I had watery discharge. My midwife also swabbed for infection because my cervix was irritated and I’ve noticed for my last 2 bathroom trips there has been some brown discharge on my toilet paper and some small stringy clumps in the bowl. Would this be due to the swab test? I’m already dilated to a 2 and 70% effaced if that makes a difference.
