Why not to lay on back late in pregnancy

Mary

Hi all! Had such a scary experience last night - had a long day and set down on my couch with feet propped up and my cat on my lap (below the belly). After 15-20 min of spacing out on my phone I started feeling super nauseous, then my head started buzzing very loud and I felt super dizzy. I sat up and tried to calm myself and started getting unbelievably hot and sweating. I was calling for my husband who was putting down our toddler because I thought I was going to pass out. I was so scared - it was really intense. I finally laid down on my side and it passed.

As I look it up it’s Aortocaval compression syndrome also known as supine hypotensive syndrome - weight of baby sitting on a major artery resulting in loss of blood flow and drop in blood pressure. I’m relieved to know why it happened but now feel so freaked out about laying on my back at all. Has anyone else had this happen?
