Is this ear infection?

We have our 4 month appointment on Monday, in the meantime I wanna ask here.

Baby has been tugging and pulling on his ears a lot. Both of them but mostly one. He’s had dry and flaky skin on his ears for a while now (not inside the ear canal), and I’ve been putting a little bit of aquaphor on the dry areas with a q-tip. No fever, no appetite issues, good amount of wet and dirty diapers, sleeps as usual. Could that be ear infection or some kinda skin condition/dryness that causes itchiness?
