Teaching without a degree??

I have a friend who is currently teaching at an elementary school. I know for a fact she doesn’t have a degree. She was teaching English online and in order to get that job, she had her sister photoshop a degree for her saying she had her bachelors degree. 
Couldn’t she get in big trouble for this? Or can you be a teacher without a degree? Where she’s currently teaching it’s a private school and if I was paying for my children to get the best education possible… I’d be pretty upset finding out there’s a teacher there without any degree. 
On one hand, she’s teaching art and music - not math or science and it’s at an elementary level, but still..

That wouldn’t be my friend, and I’d report her ass. That’s so gross! It’s not like she just doesn’t have a degree, she photoshopped one. I would be insanely upset if that were my kid’s teacher, and I’d sue. Obviously they didn’t do a background check on her.

Faking credentials in that way is a crime. She could actually be arrested and have charges levied against her.

Private schools don’t have the same degree requirements. The individual school will set its own requirements, and you may be surprised by them.
It’s a criminal thing for her to have lied previously, but it sounds like you don’t have enough information to know if she’s wrong in this case. And why is it your business? Why go out of your way to destroy someone else’s life? I’m sure she can do that fine on her own if she is untruthful. Truth tends to come forward on its own. Personally I’d let it go.

Although yes I agree that it’s wrong what she did. But if she’s not treating them wrong or abusing them. I wouldn’t even bother. It’s not my business. Usually what’s made in the dark, will come into the light. She’ll end up getting caught eventually. It’ll catch up to her.

I would definitely think it’s illegal to fake your credentials! However, in my state, you do not have to have a teaching degree to teach at a private school. I have a P.E. Degree and teach in a public school but I could technically teach English or math at a private school. 🤷🏽‍♀️

In order to be a teacher, you must have a degree and certification. I don’t know how the school didn’t follow up with the school she “graduated” from or how she got a job without certification. In any case, I would bring it to the attention of the principal. She isn’t only lying, she’s misrepresenting her credentials and could be committing a crime.

In Florida, you just need a bachelors in almost anything and you can be a teacher. They give you a time limit to get the required education to teach and then take state test.. I feel this is so much better, if someone worked in a field and now wants to teach it, they can relate better to the subject. Teachers that just read from the book and cannot expand on the topics are holding back on our children’s education.
