What is it like when you first get married?

Question

Do you just go home and everything feels the same?
Is there some sort of honeymoon phase similar to the start of the relationship?
Are there any new challenges or obstacles?

Literally nothing changed. We’d been together for 10 years and lived together for 4. We got married, had a blast at our reception, came home, sat on our kitchen floor and opened our gifts, passed out on the couch for a while, went to bed and woke up on Sunday like it was a normal day.

For us, it was hugely different. We didn't live together until we got married. We were both waiting until marriage for sex. So yeah, we had quite the honeymoon  phase. I wouldn't change it at all. We are a week away from our 8th anniversary.

Depends on the couples and how immersed in each others lives they were before marriage.  Did they live together for years? Were they long distance? Do they share children? Etc. i definitely think there is a difference being marriedad not being married…. But to what degree depends on the couple’s.

We had been together for 6 years living together for 5. We had a covid wedding in our kitchen spent the night at a fancy resort, and went back to work on Monday. It was nothing crazy but we really did form a whole new connection after we tied the knot. I’m surprised to see that wasn’t the case for so many others in the comments.

We had lived with each other already for a few months before we got married.  So I felt about the same. Maybe more in love afterwards? But only because I’m a bit of a romantic. Lol.  Our relationship is great.  We are the type of couple that generally get along. We do fight but it’s usually over stupid things. And it’s not very often. I will say though that he’s my first ever serious, long term relationship. Before him I had been by myself so it takes a little getting used to, having someone else’s feelings to think about all the time.

We dated 5 years before we got married. Lived together for about 3 years. The only thing that changed after we got married was that I tore my shoulder soon after returning to work from the honeymoon. We had to find out what "in sickness and in health" meant pretty quickly, because I was down to 60% of my wages for a few months while healing. It put quite a strain on us, but I think it also made us stronger. Otherwise, in normal circumstances, if you lived together beforehand I would say little actually changes.

Nothing changed lol we had been together for 7 years and lived with each other after only a few months together. We didn't have a big wedding, we surprised my in laws when they visited us from across the country with an elopement at a tax office. We've been together almost 15 years now. We just wanted to make it official since we would both be out of school and weren't worried about how it might affect financial aid anymore.

Felt the same. We had been together for years and already lived together. Only difference was he wore a ring now. To me it shouldn't feel any different besides a little extra happiness that the wedding went well and you enjoyed it but as far as the relationship it should be the same. Only times I have personally seen people say it felt different was when one person changed after the wedding which meant they weren't being their true selves before the marriage.

We'd been living together about 3 years and we had postponed our wedding plans due to covid - so we had a registry wedding. Nothing changed for us. I still struggle with the name change though (married less than a year and decided to keep both names).
