Why is my child hitting herself?!

Question

I have a 16 month old toddler and she keeps on slapping herself on her head.
She is usually sweet and caring, but also can be a little monkey 😂 this is all new and I feel awful like I'm a bad parent! She seems to be bothered about something recently and I'm not sure what. She does have more teeth coming through but I don't know if that's the reason! Anyone else know why toddlers do this?

It’s usually a sensory thing. It’s a stimulating experience that they’re trying to figure out. Toddlers literally have to learn how far their arms go and how much force they have the power to exert and how to control it. 
Some kids love spinning around at that age, same reason just cuter and less concerning.
It should pass as she grows out of whatever little developmental phase she’s going through.
You can try to ease her out of it by by exploring sensory experiences with her arms and hands. Go outside, toss balls. Help her swim from bars at a park. Lift her up and let her pick leaves off trees, ask her to reach really far. Give her a toy drum and xylophone and encourage her to beat the heck of them. Get her a punch balloon and teach her to bonk it (hours of super cheap fun by the way!). Hit a beach ball back and forth with her.

Do you react when she does it? She might be doing it for a reaction. Try not reacting when she does it and it might eventually go away.

i work in a daycare and there was a few kids who did this too, after a few weeks they finally quit, it is weird though lol
