Successful induction with no dilation

Anyone who was not dilated or effaced at all and was induced and induction was successful and had a vaginal delivery?? Specially with first baby

Im 39 week 4 days today and got checked today no dilation or effacement. And im scheduled to be induced at 40 week 2 days. Im just scared i have to go through the pain of failed induction leading to c section.

With my first I was only 0.5cm dilated and was not effaced at all when I was induced at 40 weeks because of high blood pressure. It took about 16 hours to get things moving and then another 15 hours of intense labor but I did end up with a successful vaginal birth. Its definitely possible!

What induction method did they use? And how many times they check cervix during whole induction process like every 2 hrs or what? And did you get the epidural and at how many cm?

I was 0/0 with my first: vaginally delivery, induced, 16 hours longI was 2cm/0 effacement second: vaginal delivery, induced 8 hours long I was 0/0 with my third: vaginal delivery, induced, 9 hours long. Just because you need to be induced doesn’t mean you will need a c section. My sister was induced with 4 of hers and all 6 were vaginal deliveries

I get a full epidural because they don’t offer walking epidurals at my hospital so that limits you to on your back. I like to get it right away and all of my labors have been short, longest was 16 hours, then 8 and then 9. I like to be comfortable during labor and with the epidural I can rest and relax before having to push

Do you think getting epidural early will delay labor? Or should i get it as soon as possible? What do you suggest? They said they will start with the pill in mouth cytotec and then see how things progress and then move to IV medications. Which pushing position you recommend with epidural? Like that can help minimize tears?

My hospital has certain protocol. So when I go in, I get an IV and they have to give you IV fluids for one hour before you can have an epidural, I get mine as soon as I can. They checked about every 2 hours or if I asked. I like the epidural right away because then I can rest and relax for the day, which is great!!!! They will come periodically to have you switch sides. They break your water around 4 cm. I’ve enjoyed all of my inductions and epidurals so I’m scheduled for my fourth on Tuesday. Also, the food at our hospital is amazing.... I’m looking forward to that too 🤣

What induction method are they using this time? They told me they will be using cytotec on me and then move forward. Is getting epidural at 1 cm ok? Like will it delay the labor or is it ok? What do you suggest me? They gave me two options folley bulb or cytotec. Im already scared of pelvic exams so i cannot choose the bulb.

I don’t want to scare you because my experience wasn’t the best. But they used cytotec. They checked me every hour which lead to an infection 2 days after birth and I got readmitted. I got the epidural when I was only a 1 because I couldn’t handle the pain from the cytotec. It also caused my baby’s oxygen to drop because the contractions were too strong and too close together. I am being induced again next week and just changing the way we do it this time.

Its comforting to know that. What induction method did they use? And how many times they check cervix during whole induction process like every 2 hrs or what? And did you get the epidural and at how many cm?

I was 1 cm when I went in for my induction they started me on medication at 6pm and I had her 2 days later at 4:52 am. They thought I was gonna need a c with how slow everything was going and that they broke my water but I didn’t

They also gave me pitocin while I was getting the pills I was uncomfortable at times but they gave me medication to ease my pain the first 2 exams hurt the rest I was on drugs so I was okay then I got my epidural.

So the first thing we tried was like a tampon in stayed in for 12 hrs they checked me before and after then we did a pill called dinoprostone taken ever 2 hrs and checked me before I got my next dose I got 2 of those you can get up to 6. After the tampon thing they broke my water as well and after the second pill when they came to check me I was ready to push.

With my first little one I wasn’t dilated and only about 30/50% effaced at 40 weeks. Once I got induced on pitocin from the time I was induced to the time little one was born it was a 7hr labour start to holding baby. I needed the epidural though because contractions were horrendous! I had to be induced twice because first induction via pessary was giving me contractions that were too frequent and not lasting long enough to progress me properly and that could’ve put little one in distress so I had to have it removed and left alone overnight before starting again following day at dinner time (6pm) I had my waters broke and started on pitocin and was only in labour start to finish for 7hours.

No problem honey, honestly they didn’t check me very often because in the UK they don’t like to interfere with your cervix too much. It was 2 induction methods with the same pregnancy. The first method they tried became unfit so they let my contractions settle down after removing my pessary as they didn’t want to keep it in because the contractions weren’t lasting long enough to help my dilated but the frequency could’ve put baby into distress because of them not lasting long enough to progress me but those contractions were bearable and I would’ve dealt better with those if they were longer lasting and were able to keep it in. So they did stretch and sweeps the whole day starting from the following morning after the pessary was removed until I was at 2cm and then sent me to delivery suite to have my waters broken and then they started me on pitocin. Pitocin contractions was something else, extremely powerful. Didn’t make me cry but a lot of screaming and cussing was involved so I decided after the persuasion of the midwife to get an epidural. After then there was no pain and all I did was wait until I was 10cm which was 4hrs after the epidural to start pushing when I felt pressure (also not painful). Don’t think you need to go without pain meds if you need them that’s what they’re there for, I wanted to go unmedicated or with gas and air which if I had the pessary as the only needed method and it was suitable then I would’ve managed. I pushed her out in 6 mins too and that was with being completely numb down there

Thankyou for your reply. how many times they check cervix during whole induction process like every 2 hrs or what? And is it painful? And 2 induction methods pessary and pitocin was used for the same pregnancy?

Yes I wasn’t dilated or effaced at all with my daughter but the induction process was very long. I went in Friday morning and finally had her Monday morning. So try not to stress too much 😊

First we went with cervadil to soften my cervix and then cycotec to dilate which got me to 1cm and that took all of Friday and half of Saturday to do. Then they put the foley bulb and that got me to 4ish cm (rest of Saturday), around 5cm they broke my water and started Pitocin, I got to 6cm before I needed the epidural which failed so then I was in god awful pain til I finally got to 10cm around 10:30am Monday and pushed for 30ish minutes and finally had my daughter. I’m pretty sure most peoples inductions go smoother than mine and my epidural failed cause I have slight scoliosis and the person putting the anesthesia in didn’t notice til it had already been placed.

I feel like we’re both in the same situation! I just had my cervix checked yesterday (38w6d) and not open at all. I have an induction scheduled for 40w (next Thursday) and pretty nervous for what to expect. 😩

Hi. I have an induction scheduled for this monday (40 week 2 days) at 8am. I will keep you updated, may be it will help to ease your mind. Hoping and praying everything works out well for us.
