Breastfeeding with nipple shield

Kelsie

Hi everyone, this is first post ever on the glow community. I have read and read about nipple shields so I’m sure I’m not the first to come here for some support/ encouragement regarding breast feeding with the nipple shield. My son is 11weeks old and has become accustomed to only nursing with the shield. Due to his tongue tie (that’s now fixed) I was in so much pain I almost threw in the towel so that’s how the nipple shield was introduced…Don’t get me wrong, I am very thankful that I can still breastfeed him, but it’s becoming more of an issue to me. He seems frustrated with it and knocks it off but rarely does he even try to latch without the shield. He usually gets super mad and then it’s not as easy nursing him the rest of the time because he’s upset. I’ve tried taking it off 3-4 min in, offering without to start…none of it really works. I even went to a lactation consultant earlier on and he wouldn’t have it. She told me he just wasn’t ready yet. I’m just waiting for the day he decides he is but I’m also nervous that day won’t come… do you guys have any stories of encouragement to share or tips? Thanks so much..
