Contractions but not dilating

So I am currently 34w+1 yesterday I started having mild contracting which I thought was braxton hicks, I stayed home a d they started to intensify. So off to labour ward i go at 10pm to get checked over. I was put on the monitor and contractions were 3-4mins apart, had a cervical check and was not dilating so was given medication every half hour to try stop them. I also had a steroid injection incase bub arrived early. Contractions didn't ease until 4am this morning. Sent home. Anyone else had this before
