Strange Toddler Behavior

I am really at a loss and am so sleep deprived I can't think straight anymore. My 2-year-old son has been an excellent sleeper since 9 months...sleeps from 8pm to 6am in his own bed every night. On Halloween he got very sick with RSV and we ended up in the ER for breathing treatments and chest x-rays. Since becoming sick his sleep is inconsistent...some nights he sleeps well, but 3-4 times a week he stands in his crib literally all night, screaming like he is terrified, and pointing at the corner of his bedroom. If I try to pick him up to comfort him, he screams NO and starts hitting, kicking and biting me until I put him down. It's quite upsetting to see him screaming at the corner of his room completely inconsolable. I don't want him to feel abandoned so I stay in his room even though he won't let me touch him. Any ideas ladies???
