Is my baby a small weight?

Had a scan done at 36 weeks exactly and baby weighs 5lbs6. Is this a good size? I have 4 weeks to go and wondering how much weight they roughly put on this far gone. My scan lady had no concerns but I forgot to ask if he is on the smaller side x

No that’s actually a good size baby.  They gain quite a bit the last month of gestation.  I’d predict you’re looking at an 8lb baby by birth if that weight is correct.

I want to say my baby was around that size when I was 36 weeks and he was 7lbs 9oz when I gave birth. I think on average at 36 weeks babies can weigh in the upper 5 pounds range but every baby is different! I think in the last few weeks of your pregnancy is when their weight goes up really fast!

Sounds normal to me. Mine measured 7lbs 4oz at 36 weeks and that’s 95th percentile. So you are probably right at average weight.

They gain about 1/2 a pound per week at this point. And the measurements could be wrong up to 2 pounds in either direction. They overestimated my son by 1/2 a pound. At 36w4d he measured 7 pounds but he came exactly a week later at 6lb10oz.

I would not worry. Have they been measuring your belly? I’m only 16 weeks now, but with my daughter they started measuring my belly every appointment to track her growth. Ultrasounds in late term are not super accurate for measurements because they can only see so much of baby at one time anymore…. so, from my limited experience as a nurse, they’re not the end all be all for determining weight.
