Should I talk to my employer?

I am a dental assistant and I work around N2O and X-rays a lot but we recently started trying for a baby. I know the study that being around N2O a lot can cause miscarriages and we are expected to have to hold the X-ray and have someone else press the button if we are having a hard time. Should I tell the dentist that I want to be more careful or should I wait until I know?

I would wait until you know, it could take a long time to get pregnant and it seems like a long time to have to make exceptions then have the 9 months of exceptions on top. I hope it doesn’t take long for you but realistically some women take years and I guess it adds extra pressure if others know. But it’s your choice 🙂

Wear your lead apron if you are worried about X-ray.. Dental xrays do not produce as much as say a foot X-ray.. And you should only be holding if the patient can not do it themselves and then you should be wearing your shield just like the patient. I’m an X-ray tech and even if I got pregnant I would still shoot xrays..

You should let your manager know when you do get pregnant. I’m a dental assistant and when the sensor doesn’t stay in place someone will hold it for me and I press the button. If we need N2O for the patient again someone else will assist the doctor. I take X-rays all the time but obviously I have a wall protecting me outside of the room.

I’m a dental assistant as well. My employer knows we have been ttc. But once I’m pregnant then I won’t be in the same room with N2o
