Work rant (not much anyone can do, just looking to rant)
I am a news anchor/producer at a small news station and am the sole one for local news.
They have a very strict policy on stories that can be ads, and I have gotten a couple talks about stories that, seemed perfectly fine to me, but they took as ads.
Last night I did a story about snow fall and how it affected a ski area downstate, I mostly focus on northern things.
It stated that the brand new snow was encouraging more and more people to ski, it never stated for people to go there, just at the end it said “and “the owner” says there’s more to do than just ski” which is true for any ski resort.
I never stated to go there, yet somehow it was still an ad?
I had pulled this story from one of our credible news sites, the video and script were already written.
It was simply a story about a ski area that say business due to the snow, we’ve ran exact stories like that before.
However, just now I was reemed in an email by my supervisor about how it’s an ad, and local resorts will be very upset with us for not going to them.
However, wouldn’t going to them also be an ad?
I try to avoid stories that involve businesses and events as it’s so hard to tell wants an ad and not unless I’m told specifically what story to run.
Disclaimer: I run downstate news occasionally when I am low on content
