To start this off, I’m white, most of my coworkers are white.
Today on one of our tvs are work, Jason Derulo came on the news. My two coworkers, R, who is white, and D, who is black, started talking about how they swear he looks like another artist but they don’t know who.
I chime in and say maybe he just has that kinda face, where you think he looks like some but once you see them together they don’t at all. A video of him with a Mohawk and braids(?)( I’m not sure) came on and I said “for example, in this he kinda looks like the weekend cause he had the same hair, but you see them next to eachother you realize they aren’t at all”
D said they don’t look alike at all and their hair is very different. I said I know and she said it would be like if she said me and R look alike, insinuating that my comment was based on them both being black and that’s it.
I finally got it through that it was an extreme example and that he may just have a face that just looks familiar, and he also is extremely famous.
I always try to be careful of how I say things because I never want to make anyone uncomfortable, and I get the feeling she thought I was being racist, and that wasn’t my intention at all!
I’m probably just over reacting, but she’s got a bit of a reputation of being a a karen and I’m scared I could possibly get reported for this.
