What do I need?

I am on a tight budget and maternity leave doesn’t pay like we all wish. Wondering what is essential to have for the first 3 months after baby is born? Also what you packed in your hospital bag?

The only thing I took in the babies bag that the hospital didn't provide were wipes and burp rags. Everything else was given even the Vaseline for him to use. Out of my bag was nothing really. I used my shower stuff but all I needed was there

Definitely diapers, wipes and formula if you don’t plan to breastfeed. If you still have a few weeks left of your pregnancy then go ahead and stock up on diapers and wipes. 
Our hospital provides some of the 2 oz formula bottles, diapers and wipes for baby but it will only last for a couple of days. The hospital also provided us some baby soap/lotion too but it was all travel size. Just pack baby some outfits but ask your doctor what the hospital will provide and go from there. 
For my bag, I packed some loose clothes, basic toiletries, long phone charger/tablet and a boppy/blanket. My hospital provided some of the postpartum essentials like pads and a peri bottle. I overpacked my bag last time so I’m trying not to overdo it and pack lighter this time.

Answer

All I have are some onesies, baby hats and socks, swaddle blankets, and cloth diapers and a baby carrier for baby wearing. That’s it. I have no crib, no fancy gadgets, no bottles… I always breastfeed soooo don’t buy formula and have no need for anything else. babies don’t need as much as Society makes it seem.
