Could it be herpes?

So I last had sex 4 months ago, and had an STI screen which all came back negative. However, since I last had sex I have basically had daily itching and irritation down there.

For context, I ended up getting a really nasty UTI and possibly a yeast infection, so it’s safe to say that whole region was put through it a bit.

Weeks after I recovered from my UTI, I went to the gum clinic as I was still experiencing itching that was at times quite intense. The doctor examined me and said that everything looked normal ( no blisters, warts etc) and took an internal swap to look for thrush/ BV but not herpes. He said he looked under the microscope and it all looked fine. And it could be irritation or maybe a small amount on thrush.

Since then I have basically had this mild discomfort and tingling/ itching pretty much at least once a day, and it is sometimes better when I shower. Some days are better than others but it is definitely a long term thing and has been months of this constantly. There are no sores, lumps or lesions, maybe it is a tiny bit more red than it used to be!

I feel embarrassed and ashamed, I don’t even know my own body to know what’s normal or not. I am worried it could be herpes! The thought hadn’t crossed my mind as no doctors ever suggested it, and the itching has been consistent and there are no blisters, but is it possible that it could be with no blisters? Or would an outbreak even be able to last this long without going away before coming back?

Thanks for any help and advice
