When did you start baby led weaning?

I started purées for a week and wanted to try baby led weaning, she’s 6 months, and she has no interest in whole pieces of food at all. She prefer the purée. When did you start baby led weaning?

My daughter is a week shy of 6 months. I haven’t actively started yet just tested the waters. And zero purées so far. I gave her a slice of avocado the other day to see if she’s even interested. I didn’t force. Just placed it on her high chair and let her play. And tonight I gave her a strawberry.

Remember food before 1 is just for fun and practice. 
It’s not about intake or nutrition (breast milk/ formula is the main source until 1). It’s about introducing different textures, colors, and food groups. It’s about learning how to chew and swallow (purées don’t do this). There’s nothing wrong with purées and baby food in the beginning, it’s just best to stop serving only those by 8 months old. 
Don’t stress about it. Just keep offering. Babe might not be quite ready which is okay.

Supposed to meet all the signs of readiness before starting blw. 
- 6 months old
- can sit up unassisted for at least a minute
- lost tongue thrust reflex
- shows interest in food (keep offering or eating in front of baby to try to help them show interest)
We started blw a little after 6 months when our boy started sitting up unassisted and showed the other signs. You can look on Facebook at the page baby led weaning for beginners and beyond. They have a lot of infographics and other pages of info that you can read to help you get started.

Our baby wasn’t interested at first either. So we ended up doing a mix of purées and baby led weaning. Once baby was used to purées we would load the spoon and let him feed himself. 
Basically we just kept offering different foods and eventually he got the hang of it! I found that at the beginning I couldn’t offer anything purées with other foods, or the purées would steal the show haha. Our baby is 9 months now and although he’s good with table foods, he still absolutely loves any purées haha- but he does mostly feed him self purées now so I still consider that a baby led weaning win! 
Try not to get discouraged if it feels like baby isn’t getting the hang of it quite yet. Just keep trying and you’ll get there!
